Poll Question 346 – Are you, like Phillip, just as excited about the potential maps and mods made from HL3 content as you are about the game itself?

Putting aside the fact that the actual game itself will feature new enemies, weapons, locations and hopefully, please! plenty of story details, are you as interested as I am about the potential maps and mods from from the game’s content?

In many ways, the actual maps and mods created by the community is a better body of work than some of the games themselves. I even considered asking the question of if I had to have one or the other (the game or the community content), which would you prefer, but of course you can’t have the community content without the game!

I am assuming that most readers here will want both but some among you might only be interested in the games themselves.

Thoughts?

Modders: Choose the next Mapping Challenge!

As a break from how I normally do things, I thought I would try something new:
I want modders/mappers to choose the next mapping challenge.

I give you three choices and you must select via the comments.

ONLY modders/mappers comments will count not players. Sorry, but it needs to be the modders/mappers who choose, since they do the hard work!

Below are the three choices. Please read the details, not just the titles.

SCRAM Half-Life – In Development Mods

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

SCRAM is a modification to the original Half-Life single player game. It does not have any new content such as enemies, weapons, or maps.

The intent is two-fold:

1) Make HL more challenging, Enemies are tougher, faster, and smarter. Although your weapons are just as strong as in normal HL, you can’t carry as much ammo for most weapons, particularly on the higher difficulty levels.

2) To offset some of the increased challenge, the real heart of SCRAM is a reward system. In each map (after the tram ride) there are 3 lambda nuclei that can be found. Finding the nuclei can earn you rewards (ammo, health, armor) at the very end of each map. Find one and you might be rewarded – find two or all three and you’ll definitely get a nice gift at the end of the level.

Poll Question 285 – Would you support a kickstarter mod?

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

In case you don’t know, Kickstarter is a website that allows people to raise money for projects. Elite Dangerous is a good example. it’s been on the news a bit recently.

“Donators” get special “rewards” for pledging different amounts of money. It’s actually a really clever idea, or it was right at the beginning.

With so many people looking to get your money that “Special” feeling has been lost.

Poll Question 268 – Do you think Portal mods MUST get harder as they progress?

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

It might seem such an obvious answer but I don’t think they should.

Here is how my thinking goes…

Regular first person shooters don’t always get harder as the game or mod progresses.

They tend to get more complicated, because you get better weapons, which means the enemies get bigger or harder. But that in itself doesn’t mean the game is harder.

New Update Breaking New and Old Mods?

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

I have basically copied all the replies from a forum thread started by JM Kasperg, a well-known modder.

Essentially, the latest update from Valve, has caused some mods to stop working. It’s the same for some mods in development. His original post explains things.
