All the mods that were created and released as part of a PlanetPhillip.com or RunThinkShootLive.com mapping competition. Some were part of a series, others were individual competitions.
Follow these releases via RSSMapping Competitions/Challenges started in January 2010.
Approximately 2 or 3 are run every year.
They vary in length from 10 days to, in some cases, 90 days.
The current average length is 19 days - that is 3 complete weekends.
Some competitions have prize money, others some games and sometimes no prizes at all.
In 2014, the name was changed from "Competition" to "Challenge".
This was done to encourage more mappers to enter.
Around 8 Days before a challenge starts an announcement is made on the site and Twitter.
Each challenge has a very specific theme.
The tag Mapping Challenge can be used as a search filter on any of the PLAY archive pages.

UPDATE: A late entry was received and has been included in a patch and an updated file. It will not be entered into the voting system.
This Ville contains 6 entries, each with varying degrees of design quality, visuals and polish.
The theme was designed to encourage difficult gameplay and challenging scenarios.
You decide if the entrants achieved this.

This challenge contains 12 entries all with the idea of a “backtracking” as the main theme.
One of the staple events in video games is the backtrack sequence. A part of the game where you retrace your steps in the exact location but this time something has changed.
The change can be due to new enemies, a violent explosion, time travel, new vehicles etc.
We would like you to create a map where the player interacts with an area and then has to backtrack through the same area, but the area must have changed.
The reason for the change and the exact change is entirely up to you.

The thought of using them as inspiration for maps is an interesting one.
This theme came about from a suggestion made on the RTSL site.
