I have to admit, I don’t really get the title, but it’s not that important.
Anyway, it’s a great looking mod and I’m surprised I haven’t heard of it before.
I noticed a couple of issues, one being not being able to see the building from which the sniper operates if you are too far away. The other being able to get out of the ma near the end.
That said, I didn’t really try to beta test it properly and there may be other ways too.
Back to the good things.
There’s just enough ammo and the placement of the enemies is very well done.
The first part consists of reaching safety, while the second involves Combine soldiers and a few other surprises.
All in all a great piece of work. Definitely, recommended.

Overawe, Philip, could mean Mega Shock and Awe!
Just guesing:)
Man, I just don’t get what’s happening with my HL2 and Ep1&2 mods the last 2 or 3 months. As soon as it loads the mod intro screen, I get these weird flickering purple-y looking textures going on and it makes the game impossible to tell what’s going on. Never had a problem before then. Just recently blew all the dust out to keep it running cooler, did all my NVIDIA updates., etc. Now, I just keep downloading mods and haven’t been able to play any of them the last 3 times.
If anyone has some idea what’s up, it would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried Verifying the Game Cache of HL2 and Episode 2? (Right click > properties > local files) That can fix alot of issues.
Thanks for the tip. Gave it a shot but it didn’t fix it. So, not sure which way to go now. Have a good high end system but not such a great vid card, but was fine until about 2 or 3 months ago. Now just the mods are shot. Thanks anyway.
Is this issue true for mods of all games? If so, then it sounds like a base installation issue. Maybe you should try deleting you whole steam installation and starting again. Or at least one game.
We find ourself in the midst of a toxic wasteland, and right from the start are under threat from a sniper in a high building in the distance. There is a huge open area that we have to cross, fighting off zombies and avoiding the sniper, which is quite fun adn not too hard to find the path forwards. The next part of the map involves a frankly terrifying encounter with some Hunters. The mapper has introduced them so they can be heard long before they are seen, which makes the conclusion much more exciting.
The only issues I had were some strange graphical problems. Buildings in the distance kept glitching in and out of visibility in a way that was quite distracting. Also some of the interior areas were quite sparsely detailed with a lot of repeating textures. On the other hand the performance was good considering the scale of the map.
Overall it is worth playing, a nice fun little adventure but nothing too taxing.

I loved this one! It was short and simple, but the level design and layout was excellent for what it was trying to achieve. I loved that the environments felt like real places you were finding a way through, rather than spaces clearly designed for gameplay. I felt like I had a lot of choice and wasn’t being clearly funnelled down certain paths.
The enemy presence was intimidating and added a lot of challenge, but never felt frustrating. I found myself on the run in several instances, opting to escape my attackers instead of face them head-on. I cannot remember ever being allowed this freedom of choice in a mod.
My only gripe was that it seemed to be lacking a layer of polish with regards to visuals and audio. The visuals did a fine job functionally, and the architecture was realistic and interesting, but it lacked a bit of detail and there were a few parts where distant geometry was popping in and out when I looked at it. The soundscapes were almost non-existent so I would have liked some more depth there and perhaps some very subtle ambient music.

I really enjoyed this map! It’s very interesting to see a single area used multiple times and with different gameplay as you progress through. The author really gets a bang out of every brush here as he re-uses the “vista” over and over again yet keeps it fresh and new by displaying it to the player from a different angle each time.
The gameplay itself was good, lots of variety and a few areas where the player had many valid choices in how to handle things (fight, run, avoid etc).
Things I didn’t like so much. There are some LOD pop-in/out issues and some visibility issues in the main vista, a few buildings and details will disappear and re-appear when viewed from certain angles which is very noticeable. There are also some areas which feel very under-detailed compared to the rest of the map, mainly stairwells and some misc corridors which are literally just box rooms. A shame.
The final area is great, no spoilers 🙂

I really liked most of this mod, especially the beginning where you are trying to find your way without getting hit by the snipers. The amount of ammo and med-kits seemed a little light, but it was enough to get the job done. I wasn’t crazy about the ending, since I was
out of ammo and fleeing spawning hunters.
, but overall I thought it was fun to play
I really enjoyed this one with the exception of not knowing when/if it ended. In that regard, thanks for the screen shots 😉

What this mod lacks in any kind of story, it makes up for in its gameplay. It deserves praise for delivering (for me, at least) an intensely harrowing mission.
The environment, while not overly detailed, provided the feeling of an area that had been bombed, abandoned, and re-populated several times over a long period of time. The sense of scale across the map can be felt as you reach more formerly distant buildings. Supplies become more scarce as you push closer to the end. The whole thing kind of gave me the STALKER vibe (after the radioactive train segment).
Combat feels great. Most of the encounters were fairly dynamic, and the various ambush moments felt truly harrowing. I nearly ran out of ammo a few times and enemies were applying pressure from distant vantage points, as well as appearing to use actual strategy to flush me out in some sections. I think the finale was incredible and fairly original.
This mod would benefit tremendously from some better sound design. There was little in the way of ambient creaks, groans, wind talking, etc. I also think some level optimization would do wonders, and would not be difficult to implement. Finally, some sense of story is absolutely vital to start things off and wrap things up. I was disappointed to not see a title or credits.
I made this a personal favorite because of the desolate environment, challenging combat, and the grand sense of scale. There really needs to be more of this kind of work.

Ahh, a toxic wasteland. I like the theme…until I start actually playing. I am rushed by a sniper from the get go. Having to dodge a snipers constant shots doesnt allow me to explore. It also doesnt allow me to enjoy the atmosphere and surroundings, because I’m too busy ducking and being pushed ahead. The bad news is that this feature isnt just at the beggining…the whole time your playing this mod, your under sniper fire.
Once inside some buildings, you have some cover…but you also have brick rooms that are empty and look generic.
The combat is overall pretty good. The general theme is pretty good. But thanks to the above mentioned problems, a “mabye” is all it gets.

This would’ve been my fav ChaseVille entry, it was hella fun!
I was sold from the get go by the industrial waste look and the abandoned in mid construction buildings which for me pardon that boxy area of the map. I just love how you start off with almost no weapons while a long ass range sniper pins you down for the first part of the map
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=108928013
but you make your way up while re-viewing the entire gorgeous area a few times and finally taking him down
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=108931268
that pov right there is like telling you how awesome you are for coming this far, this high up
And then there’s the lovely ending. It really sets the mood the moment you hear one hunter above and run to crowbar your way out like a rat running scared in a corner. When I ran out of all my ammo and was left with 1 nade and a crowbar I was asking myself if that was how the author intended me to fight lol and finally decided to run from the hunters that kept on coming and wow, what a chase!
Another PF for me, guys 🙂
Great gameplay for a single map. It had some non-linear aspects which added to the gameplay. The repetitive textures in some areas took away from the visuals but a fun 30 minutes anyhow.

A nice and clever “sniper arena”, is clever because the only map is huge and the placement of the sniper is quite impresive, conssidering you start the map from the farthest point until you face eye to eye to the sniper and kill it whit your bare hands, if you like…
That part is the most challenging, trying to avoid the zombies and CMB units that are trying to ambush you as you try to aproach the bulding where the sniper is on his spot fire place.
Then I think the weakest part is the end, the hunters are there but whit such poor ammo is just impossible to kill them untill they conduct you whit no remedy to your death pit…
I’d preffer to actually use the sniper riffle from that distance, like helping ressistence mates, from that spot, something like that, I really don’t know why the sniper riffle has not been actually modified in order to use it, in any HL2 mod, that would be really cool.

Well what can I say… I allways love new mods, especially since they are getting thin on the ground, and “overawe” has impressed me so much ive played it 6 times this week
the gameplay is fliud and the mapping is among some of the best ive seen this year … and I love the way you need to plan your route over the wasteland to avoid the sniper ..
in regards to the sniper there plenty of objects to use including deralict trains and carriages .. however theres one mad run to the warhouse at the end of the wasteland
the zombies appear again … what is it about having to include zombies in every hl2 map,be it hl2 ep1,ep2 … in this mod its not too bad, however other mods seem to go over the top with zombies …. granted its part of the hl2 universe but as I mentioned in a previous post the idea of modding is self creation so come on guys .. lets do a mod with no zombies !
in summary “overawe” is one of the best hl2 mods in the last few years and a valuable part of my steam libary .. it has pride of place next to minerva, final project dairy and strider mountain .. well done mrflanker …

What can I say about Overawe? It’s another run-of-the-mill fantastic Source mod. A great slice of HL2 action, but it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. The climactic Hunter battle took me on quite a journey: “Imma fight these Hunters.” “Wow. This is a lot of Hunters.” “Hunters, STAHP. HUNTERS WHAT ARE YOU DOING.” “RUUUUUUUUUN.”

nice and short map…
you should definitely play it, it gives a nice feeling of being a fugitive.
It took a while for me to get the transition from fighting to fleeing in the end, but nevertheless a great, short mod

ok well obv steampipe broke all mods so any1 know what I shud have in gameinfo.txt or summin so I can replay this, please?..
If I recall correctly this one is only a single map in a mod structure. Just copy the .bsp and paste it in the common\half-life 2\ep2\maps folder, and run from the console.
There are other files tho, in other folders, like soundscapes, I don’t want to miss out on the atmosphere as a whole.. I’m sure it had a structure for a reason.
And I would like a general solution that I can apply to other mods, as well 🙁
Well, the good news is that the mod doesn’t use custom binaries, which (apparently) precludes it from working under dungpipe. The bad news is that the fixing isn’t straightforward; there’s all sorts of petty nonsense like having to go through and change all the capitals to lower case in names, and then cobbling up a custom gameinfo.txt; the last time I checked the forums, steam’s sample gameinfo.txt was reportedly still wrong so as usual it’s down to the Users to figure it out.
Here’s a forum link to a promising post, but if you want a quick fix you’re not going to like it, sorry…
Link.
not sure which one of those gameinfo suits us, tho
I tried same fix I applied for Middleville mod, which was to get the SearchPaths from the gameinfo of Exit mod, but got some trigger_once engine error 🙁
fix for the trigger_once: http://unsettlinglife.wordpress.com/2014/02/13/how-to-fix-util_setmodel-errors-when-launching-half-life-2-mods/
Mod doesnt work. Any steam pipe patch or fix?

THANK YOU!!!!!! 😀
Loved this from the very start with that interesting beginning. The acid/ruins area is just brilliant and it doesn’t stop afterwards. Really liked the environments created which felt so good and it was a rush avoiding the sniper. Many times I died but I never cheated – however – I did feel a few more health packs would have been nice. Esp about half way through, after the acid parts.
The hunters end-scene was different. I thought how am I going to do this but it’s obvious this is a game of RUN AWAY!!!
Loved this map!! Only gutted it took me this long to find it… lol
I had a good time playing this one but didn’t get really immersed in it.
Overall Design look a little bit to boxy in my opinion
Progression was quite linear, with mix between fighting and running to cover from the sniper…reaching the building added some combine fights but always in a quite linear way and without no ‘mecanics’
I didn’t really understand, that the hunter scene was there to push you to progress so i pass i quite long time using all my ammo to get rid of them which didn’t succeed since more and more are spawning…
The end is perhaps a little abrupt and not what was expected… in the meantime it was a interesting ending
