A Place in the West + The Wrap-Up Two! – Map Labs Test Tubes #14+15

for Half-Life 2: Episode Two

This release combines two Map Labs Test Tubes (short challenges). Unfortunately, one of them only received one entry so it was combined with the larger Test Tube.

A Place in the West, as the title suggests, simply asked authors to build a map based on the popular comic Half-Life: A Place in the West, which depicts life in America under the Combine.

The Wrap-Up Two! – much in the vein of The Wrap-Up! – allowed mappers to choose any previous Map Labs theme and enter. Finish an abandoned project, remaster a previous map, or make a brand new map; all were acceptable as long as the map fit one of the Map Labs themes. Nine maps were submitted.

As a follow-up to the successful Tune (a 24-hour Atom), the Map Labs folks expanded the challenge for this Test Tube. Plus – as the title confirms – there’s a twist: entries must be based on TWO songs!

The Wrap-Up! – Map Labs Test Tube #10

for Half-Life 2: Episode Two

This unique challenge allowed mappers to tidy up an unreleased or unfinished map – or make a totally new one – for any of Map Labs’s previous themes [even at the time, that was a whopping 23 themes to pick from!]. But being a Test Tube, time was really limited – this challenge only ran for 10 days.
