Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

Authors’ Notes
“This is the Berlin Wall single player map for Half-Life 2: Episode Two. After a huge anticipation for almost 2 months, the little sketch by Stene was soon made real by a group of talented modders. As the story goes, you are a citizen of the East Berlin, and tired of the evil communist government.

You dream of living at the West Germany, and you are about to find a way there somehow. There are many routes you can find and take, maybe you want to roam through dirty tunnel, or have a little gunfight with the guards. The buildings on the map are based on those of real-life, such as Checkpoint Charlie and the death strip.”

    Maybe?

A short, simple map where you must find your way into West Berlin. Textures, enemy placement, design, etc. are all okay, and I found no bugs (altho” I wasn’t really looking for any).

If you like short maps and want to kill a few minutes, this one is just the thing. The best part is shootng all the border guards with your Glock after you’ve finished the map.

  2. Phillip says Maybe

It’s an interesting idea but it doesn’t really have enough gameplay to warrant a Play it Now or Play It later recommendation. There seems to be a few ways to cross the border and with some planning a little work it probably could have been made into a cool mini-mod.

I agree that the best part is killing the guards afterwards.

Oh please, does anyone think about any German players being confronted with a storyline like this? All this GDR and Western Germany-stuff makes me cringe. I had quite my share of that, being German myself. :S
The authors should keep their hands off from storylines like this in general, that does them no good.
And those comments about killing border guards afterwards just makes me frown. No, I do have a kind of wicked humor, to be honest, but with a husband who had served as a guard for quite some years – that’s just not very funny and merely tasteless, guys. 🙁

  4. Its a mod based in a time maybe before you were born that has no real game play so killing the guards is something to do.Take it for what it is A Game.

  5. Muzzow

Well, I’m 50 and I saw both parts of Germany before the Wall fell.
Nevertheless, you should always consider that people could be a little sensible about certain topics – and even more though when they were involved into certain real life events, just like I was. 😉
I never liked games being made around real events, no matter if it’s about the Second World War, Vietnam or other things.
You should accept that there are people who regard such a topic as being nothing more than tasteless. And, why had it to be about Eastern and Western Germany? There are enough fictional events that mods can be made of, playing in the world of Half-Life.

Yes I’m German, an East Berliner of 42 years and I still live here. There is nothing here to “confront” a German player – it’s only a map for effs sake. Textures are nice and the alternative routes interesting. The style would integrate into well in a modding team with a decent story and so on.

Well most mods are made about nevada and black mesa. How does that work?People in Nevada or new mexico are not entitled to the same stipulations? It’s a game so get over it.You don’t like it don’t play it.Nobody is asking you to kill anything.

  8. Muzzow

it’s a game so get over it.

Maybe you should try discussing in a civilized manner instead of getting rude, buddy.
That takes you nowhere. And knockout arguments like “don’t like it – don’t play it” are plain stupid.
I just said that I don’t like the map’s topic, and if you feel offended because of people telling that they don’t like stuff, well, that’s your problem, not mine.

Try to be civilized if possible. I’m not attacking you because YOU like it, so don’t do that with me.
Anyway, it’s waste of time trying to discuss anything on this site. I’m done, here……

  9. I don’t see where I was rude anywhere.Just being realistic.

    Play It Later

Just played this mod, and I have to say its quite nice. Short and sweet, overall a good ol” shooter. The textures itself do justice to the game. I just wonder if the modders could stretch this idea further, y’know, longer game yeah?

By the way, I feel that everyone here is over reacting. There’s nothing wrong with voicing out your opinions. However, you should respect each others opinions too.

    Think Twice

OMG- I can’t believe anyone would actually play a game that is 100% fictional and get upset by the content. It’s like the thing is porn or some really disgusting material. It’s not. It’s not a very good mod but to get mad about the situations in the game is rediculas. What next? I suppose we’ll be hearing from the animal rights groups about shooting those poor defensless head crabs or maybe Phillip will be getting calls from some Zombie Rights grooup demanding a stop to all the zombie killing. No matter that their already dead! hahahaaha-folks-if make believe killing is hard on you-then do like Andy said-Dont play it. I won’t play any golf games for the same reason. I hate golf. Besides those poor gophers have to run for their lives from those gopher killing golfers. Man, what a crazy world!

As far as this mod goes, I got lost. I made it into the dirt tunnel and came out in a room with no apparant way out. I could cheat but decided to quit and maybe try later. This game seemed real empty and slow. Not enough action at all. Not enough German gaurds to kill !lol

  12. Heyzors

There are always going to be things floating around there that will offend someone, and if people try to be sensible and make sure that absolutely no one gets offended, then there will be no creativity or good mods. In the Half-Life games, the fact that the player has to shoot and kill head crab zombies that were once people could offend someone because you are killing people or desecrating remains, so to speak. If you don’t like something, I understand one’s reason to be offended by it, but you have to accept that there are people out there with different tastes out there and there will always be something else to get mad at. Also, I’m sure this mod was not made with the intention of offending people or Phillip most likely would not have posted it.

    -Sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen (You all better get the Half-Life 2 reference)

    Maybe?

I made it across via two different routes, would be nice to know if there are more? It’s short and not difficult with some nice mapping, but can’t help feeling that the authors missed the opportunity to turn this into a great mod, has it stands it’s interesting without much gameplay and possible to cross without a shot in anger. If only there was a way to fight your way across such that the guards and tanks came into play, missed opportunity I think.

    Maybe?

Mel , I was wondering when someone would ask the question!

I found three different ways across, although two exited at the same place.

    Any more?

If you try climbing over the tanks opposite the checkpoint you get a shock.

As for the mod, nicely done but a little simple, Original idea.

    Phil

  15. Maybe?

You need to play this mod a few times thru to find all the routes to the west side. Some routes had no action, others poison gas, electric shock, and a little gun-play. It was fun for about 15 minutes total. Nice visuals below ground.

  16. Maybe?

I found 3 routes across–ignoring the above-ground one. I suppose it’s possible, now that I have some weapons, to go back and fight my way through, but I won’t.

Short, simple map. Depending on which below-ground route you take there is zero or very little combat.

  17. Play It Later

Well worth the DL. Short, easy map that makes up in its replay value. Several alternative ways to get around the wall to the west, however, they all vary in difficulty and action. Not a mapping marvel, but quite nice in terms of execution and concept.

  18. Hec

    downloaD LINK DOWN!., i’d love 2 play this and I can’t 🙁

        Thanks phillip, i’ll try it!

    Play It Now!

This is a cool little clever map, I love the ways u can make it to west berlin.

The Tank models are just fantastic conssidering I love HL2 new models. ALso they are the new models for the CMB., Maybe some new weapons models like ak47 or soviet psitols would come just perfect in here.

Is nice to get out the CMB hl2 univerese sometimes, but I think here this map could be transformed into a CMB map hl2 plot style quite easyly and still would be a good map.

Also i’ve been trying to play this quite time ago, and untill now I try it, I say is like a little jewel between the thousands and thousands of maps available for HL2 universe.

    Give it a try.

Just a quick note: This is maybe one of my last reviews-recommendations here on PP.com by now, at least for a long time, I think I just won’t be able to play almost nothing for the next 3-4 months, due I start my Masters degree on Political Issues and Public Policy, next monday 10th sept. Maybe I give u more info than u need, but if u see this wish me luck as I heard is a hard fultime demanding course :-/, so the next 2 years i’ll be dedicated to it at full, well i’ll always look to play some hl2 essential releases, when my vacation time allows me to do it, so for now farewell and I hope HL3 is released in this next 2 years!!!

  20. Think Twice

It’s a cool concept, and I like that there are multiple ways to get to West Berlin, but overall it’s a confusing and not very fun map. I found three ways to get there, one of which just involved a really long tunnel. The other only had two enemies to fight and they were just melee combat. The other way is really obscure, which is a shame because it’s the most interesting. However, it seems to be a bit broken. There’s a door that tells you to find a key, I found it but the door still would not open and I had to noclip past it. It also has a bit of combat. The funnest part of this map is fighting the guards after you get some weapons, but that doesn’t get you any reward or ending. You can also walk to the edge of the map and stare into the void. I don’t recommend this map.

  21. Play It Later

Never knew you could include a model into the bsp map file. Was wondering why one map had such a large filesize.

The map itself? I think it’s ok. Nothing special, but nothing blatantly problematic either. (Except one part in the sewers) There are multiple paths to your objective but I highly doubt it would be this easy in real life. Go figure.
