This is the sequel to one of the best known Half-Life mods. It continues the original storyline. If this mod is new to you (What part of Mars were you on?) you can find the original here: Poke 646.
After defeating the alien leader Nihilanth, you, Gordon Freeman, declined the mysterious G-Man’s offer of employment and narrowly escaped death at the hands of several alien grunts.
After battling your way through the Lambda Reactor Complex and realigning the antenna dish you were able to make contact with the outside world.
Word has spread of the strange events at Black Mesa and the government is attempting to coverup the truth by reporting “a terrorist plot to obtain U.S. military secrets has been uncovered at the Black Mesa Complex. An undetermined number of civilian personnel have been killed in the well-organised terrorist raid which has been met by U.S. rapid-deployment forces.”
It was written in the ancient scrolls of Xian that, during the last Crelat of Xen time, a portal would be opened between two universes and a being would cross the void and cause the second re-birth of Nihilanth, and all Xen would be drained of their lifeblood, their knowledge.
And that, in this time, the Xen race would be oppressed by the armies from the far side of the portal.
It was also written that once the portal was opened, a human known as “Freeman” would cross the galactic transverse into Xen space, and set free the three sacred Telnorps, the guardians of the gate who had been captured from the ancient enemies of the Xen, the Zan from the Theldran galaxy.
And so it was that the prophecy came to pass, and the weakened Xen were powerless to resist an onslaught from the Zan. In the dawn of the first Ashaan of Xen time, the elders of the high council sanctioned an uneasy alliance with the perpetrators of the impending disaster, the Human race, in order to restore the sacred telnorps, and thus sealing the Zan gateway… forever.
The ambassador of the Alien Investigation Unit on earth was called upon to “redeem” the situation by employing the use of the very individual who had inadvertently caused the situation…
This is April’s Classic of the Month mod.
It’s 13 months after the incidents at Black Mesa. The Black Mesa Research Facility has been shut down. The nation never got to know anything about the experiments there. The less you know, the less you worry. The government founded a new organisation to handle “alien related topics”. They hired the best scientists, technicians and military forces worldwide, its name is Poke646.
Some days ago the Poke646 scientists spotted alarming signals from the Xen homeworld. It looks as if the aliens plan to invade Nation City by opening a massive amount of portals. But the Poke646 Tech Labs are already prepared: some months ago the technicians developed a huge generator which is able to close hundreds of portals at once with a bundled energy beam. Four generators are about to be installed at the edges of Nation City. With all four activated they will form a giant beam and hopefully destroy the alien portal technology forever.
“A few hours after Adrian Shephard and his squat got scattered allover the Black Mesa Complex, headquarter sent a rescue team to search the lost crew.
But as we all know even a military operation never turns out as planned…
Finding himself in the misery a soldier tries to do the best out of his lonely situation. Searching for allies he quickly becomes a major part in an issue he´s never been training for.”
You play a scientist going about his day as Black Mesa suddenly becomes infested with aliens.
Find any weapons you can and try to reach the surface.
Watch out for enemies, they come from all around you!
You wake up in a dark alley, not knowing anything. What has happened anyway? You struggle after the truth and answers.
Answers you want to know in the darkness and fear, which makes your heartbeat race like violent blows against your head.
Where do “they” come from? What has happened? Are you just turning insane?
Pay attention – things are more complex than they might first appear. Intrigue, subterfuge, and mystery predominate. An ancient machine tainted with human technology, guarded by a vicious pack of Nihilanthi aliens. There are few answers, but many questions. Will they ever be resolved?
Originally, ETC stood for Earthquake Test Centre, but now that’s been forgotten.
All that matters is that you find yourself in a BM-style base with aliens and army trying to kill you.
It’s clear that you need to find a way out.
In fact, there’s a working portal, if only you could reach it!
